Papers of members of the Spooner family, in particular John and William. John's papers include deeds to property in Boston and elsewhere and an account of his funeral expenses (1768). Papers of Dr. William Spooner include appointments as justice of the peace and as a member of the Mass. Governor's Council, notifications of his election to the Mass. State Senate, and certificates of membership in various organizations. Other papers include those of John Phillips, in particular several related to his role as commanding officer of Castle William, a Boston Harbor island, including appointments and a list of men who voluntarily enlisted there (1762); and of Samuel Winthrop, including an account of the damages on Governor's Island (Boston) caused by the British troops who forcibly took possession of it (Apr. 1775).
